You should always be getting a free savings account. There are a lot of banks out there, like US Bank, that will charge you a monthly fee to have an open savings account. That is assuming that all you have is a savings account, and you do not have a checking account with them. There are banks out there that will allow you to have a zero balance, or close to it, and the savings account will still be free. If you cannot find a bank that will give you a free savings account, then there are a lot of places for you to choose from to get a free savings account online. It doesn’t make sense to me why a bank expects you to pay a monthly fee to have a savings account open. I can understand if you are opening a checking account and they would want to charge you, but a savings account is totally different.Either way, do not open a savings account if it is not free.

There are a lot of free online savings accounts that are available if you want to make things easy. Right now, Ally Bank is doing a really good job at keeping good rates. They have a free savings account, and it is super easy to open.
